It's sound time 🎶

For this sound project, my partner and I were required to create a video-based off on only sounds. The storyline for our project was a fairly simple one, a morning routine. Actually, when we were coming up with an idea for the project it took seconds to think of. Morning routines are everyday tasks and often most American's routines consist of the same tasks.

Basic sounds that we used were flushing the toilet, a showerhead turning on, opening doors, using a blow dryer, and turning on the car. All of the sounds that we created were handmade and the second video will show some examples of that process. For example, I used a heal to mimic the sound of somebody walking through the house. Personally, I think that this project was a learning lesson for me because when I tried to create the sound of someone grabbing cereal and eating it, it sounded like a hulk smash. The sound did not translate the way that I wanted it to.

All in all, everyday activities were quite difficult in the end to produce because we were too specific. What I mean by this is that we did not go across all types of audiences and only focused on women. (using makeup bottles to create the pop sound) What I take away from this project is that sounds are culturally created and have to impact all types of audiences so the message is understood. This was definitely a learning experience for me and I now understand why there are professionals who do this job and get paid tons of money for it.

Learn from the Master of Editing Shots 🎦

Contrast

In this shot, you can see a globe spinning. The globe spinning indicates displacement and unattached. It also shows a longing for something. The shot of the soccer ball rolling indicates that someone just kicked it. The soccer ball is seen as being the only thing in the world that the person loves. This cut was to show a hidden meaning within two spheres. The point of view camera angle adds more meaning because it is shown from that persons POW about the objects.

Parallelism

In this scene, the first show includes a girl creating a straight line on a piece of paper for a school project. As the girl gets closer to the paper, a sudden cut shows a scene with a knife and a hard bowled egg. The following scene shows someone cutting into the egg. This transition compares both motions.

Symbolism

The beginning scene shows a girl running across the screen. It is there to show exercise. The scene then cuts to the same girl on her computer with the light on her screen all the way up. The scrolling through the pictures shows that she is looking for that void but will be on the screen all night because of how addicting it is. The final seconds show a black screen with Serotonin on it with the phrase "A force that consumes the human life". This symbolizes that running and social media/electronics produce serotonin that controls our minds and everyday actions.

Simultaneity

In the first shot it shows a girl waving to something. The shot is then proceeded by a girl on her phone. You can infer that the girl in the first shot was waving to her. The next scenes will show a girl getting more and more frustrated and waving like crazy at the girl who is still on her phone. The more she tries to get the girls attention, the more it doesn't happen until finally there is a slight look up and a disgusted wave. This links the two scenes together, showing what is happening and who the girl is trying to get ahold of at the same time.

Leit Motif

Immediately, you hear a ticking sound of a clock and many videos of different clocks. The clocks are a recurrent theme throughout the shot that make you feel like the time is coming to an end. The sound adds to this by creating an annoying noice that makes you feel like it is the end of the world. The different times on the clocks add to the feeling of the end of time.
